About Jonah
Hello TBE! I am Jonah Blumenthal, and I will become a bar mitzvah on December 7th. I’m an athlete, and I play baseball and swim. I have played these two sports all my life, and I hope to keep on doing them. I swim 4-5 times per week, and I invest much of my free time into it. I am also a fishing fanatic, and love to go fishing whenever I can, often in Rhode Island or while visiting my grandparents in Florida. I go to summer camp at Skylemar in Maine, and look forward to going again this year.
I have two younger brothers, Eli who is 10 and Ari who is 7. My mom and dad got us a puppy last year, a cavapoo named Lyra, and I have been enjoying having a dog ever since.
I am a 7th grader at the Shady Hill School in Cambridge. I really like all of my classes, but my favorite is science. I have always liked to do experiments and labs, and we do a lot of those in class!
Becoming a bar mitzvah, I am excited to take on more responsibilities and challenges in my Jewish community. It makes me feel accomplished as a student of Hebrew to finally have my bar mitzvah, and it was meaningful to have done so many hours of service through Ma’asim Tovim. My favorite volunteer work we did was building picnic benches, where we had to cut wood out and build the benches out of it. I am proud to be a bar mitzvah, and I am ready for any obstacles that come my way.
About Max
Hello TBE community! My name is Max Zelman, and I like doing lots of different things. The activity I enjoy the most is playing hockey. I’ve been playing ever since I was four, and I like being a part of a team and skating really fast. I currently play for Framingham Jr. Flyers bantam. When I’m not playing hockey, you can find me reading books or searching for bad jokes to share with my family and friends!
I live in Framingham with my parents, Lara and Josh, and my little sister Dena. I am a seventh grader at Walsh middle school in Framingham, and my favorite subject is math, because whenever I am cold, I can just go in the corner where it is 90 degrees! At school I also do VEX V5RC Robotics. My team made it to the regional championships last year, and we are hoping to go even further this year! I have been in Scouts BSA since kindergarten, and my current rank is Tenderfoot. I have spent my last two summers at URJ Eisner Camp, and I am looking forward to going again next summer. One of my favorite parts of camp is being able to choose all of the different activities that I do, like pottery, archery, and the climbing wall.
Becoming bar mitzvah means becoming a Jewish adult, and having a responsibility to do tikkun olam, repairing the world. Over the past 2 years, I have participated in many service projects, including building accessible picnic tables, writing messages to people at a mikvah, putting together soup kits, and cleaning up litter in Cochituate State Park.
